John Clifford Rewis, 87 of Crescent City, Florida went home to be with his Lord on Monday, August 14, 2017. John
was born in Georgetown, Florida to the late William and Thelma (Conger) Rewis. Besides his parents he is preceded
in death by his daughter, Michelle Rewis, siblings, Eston Rewis, Mildren McMinn, Leon Rewis, Ralph Rewis, half sisters, Emma Rewis Sapp, Estelle Rewis and Edna Rewis Fender.
John was a 22 year Veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He started out as a radio man serving on a destroyer and obtained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Upon his retirement he continued his technical expertise as a Communications Expert for 30 years with Southern Bell, AT& T, and Lucent Technologies. John’s favorite pastime was woodworking and he was considered by all a Master Wood Craftsman. He enjoyed building and crafting wood gifts for his children such as a treehouse, model planes for his son. and dollhouses and sailboats for his grandchildren. He was always making things for his family and for his church.
John loved sports and was an avid fan of the Florida Gators and Boston Red Socks.
He was a 18 year member of First Baptist Church in Crescent City, Florida where he served The Lord, worked in Awanas, was an usher and was the cutest man in the church. He lives on in the hearts of his wife, Merle Rewis of 31 years of Crescent City, Fl.; Children, Debra Fletcher and husband, Pat of Ft. Pierce, Fl., Melinda Fonvielle and husband, Daniel of Fleming Island, Fl., Jon Rewis of Jacksonville, Fl., Tina Sharpe of Hawaii, Helen Rewis Reeves and husband, Patrick of Jacksonville, Fl., Pamela Rewis of St. Augustine, Fl., three step sons, Mark Howle and wife, Beth of Jacksonville, Fl., Greg Howle and wife, Danuta of Boston, MA., Michael Howle and wife, Marlene of High Springs, Fl.; brothers and sisters, Juanita Rentz of Jacksonville, Fl., George Rewis of Moniac, Ga; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. John’s Life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 26, 2017, 11 AM at First Baptist Church of Crescent City with Dr. David Schull officiating. Military honors will be bestowed by the United States Navy. Watts Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of the arrangements.
