Betty Helena Cadogen Oxley, 90, passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice in Palatka, FL on August 3rd, 2013. She was born April 12, 1923 in Grimsby Lancashshire to the late Fred and Mercy Cadogen, their only child, later living in Wales, where she spoke fluent Welsh. She fought in WWII in Her Majesty’s Royal Army before marrying the love of her life, the late Wing Commander Mick Oxley in 1948. She then settled down to be a beloved housewife and mother. She traveled all over the world with her husband and children in the Royal Air Force before finally retiring from AFNORTH, in Norway and then emigrating to where she always wanted to live – the United State of America. She became a citizen in 1982 and resided in Crescent City, Florida. She enjoyed singing, dancing, reading the Bible, spending time with her friends, ministering to others, and later in life, loved watching her great grandchildren play. She also loved attending church at First Assembly of God in Palatka, Florida until she was unable to walk. She made friends all over the world who will miss her greatly.
Left to cherish her memories are her two daughters, Gaylene (David) Odell, of Crescent City, Florida; Deborah Oxley, of Watford, United Kingdom; four grandchildren, Stephanie (James) Cheely, Kristian (Dana) Unruh, Emma (CJ) Dean, Brad (Ashley) Odell of Jacksonville Florida; a cousin Gerald (Eileen) Cadogan of Coshocton Wales, a niece Toni (Allen) Jerman of Birmingham England, ten great-grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
There will be no public memorial service, the family will be having a private get together per her wishes.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family is requesting donations be made to Haven Hospice.
