Henry Rhodes Jr. ,90, peacefully left this life on November 1, 2014 at his home in Crescent City Florida. He was born July 29, 1924 at Lochghelly, Fayette County, West Virginia to the late Henry and Cleo Rhodes.

Henry grew up in various coal mining communities in Fayette County. He graduated from Oak Hill High School at the age of 16. Henry joined the United States Navy in 1941.  While on a short military leave he married Eleanor Frances McKinney on December 28, 1945 in Minden West Virginia. Six children were born of this union. Determined to provide a better life for his family than the Great Depression afforded him, he excelled in his military career. His obligation to the military included assignments in Seattle Washington, Great Lakes Illinois, Queens New York, Honolulu Hawaii and Washington D.C.  Ever mindful of his humble beginnings he often offered aid to family members and friends alike. He served his country with honor achieving the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer as a Computer Analyst and retired in 1963. After a short time in civilian employment for the Carpenter’s Union in Washington D.C , he returned to government service and retired as a GS-14 in 1979 at the age of 55.

Over the years Henry served his community through numerous organizations. He served as Lt. Governor for the Chesapeake Club of Civitan International. During his military career he played baseball for the Navy and contemplated being drafted to the Chicago Cubs. He coached boxing teams for the United States Marine Corps earning deep respect from both branches of the service. Henry coached Little League Baseball whose members included his own son Henry and grandson Ricky.

Henry is survived by his daughters; Gail Frances Bennett of Cincinnati Ohio, Linda Jean Rousay of Caldwell Idaho and Rebecca Ann Horn of Crescent City Florida. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Kimberly Brodbeck, Raymond Andrew Gill, Loyd Hoff, Eleanor Wraught, Linda Bahem, Richard Rousay III, Cleo Rousay, Anthony Rhodes, Henry Irwin, Nina Irwin, Christopher Irwin; Three step-grandchildren; Robin Riddle, Mike Latham, Daniel Latham and 33 great grandchildren. His surviving siblings are sisters Lillian Roberts, Ada Mae Legg, Ruby Rickard and Elsie Sexton.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor Frances Rhodes; children, Jane Devra, Joan Debra, son Henry Rhodes III; Siblings: Io Lucas, Jesse Rhodes, Delbert Rhodes, Ivora Scarbrough and grandson Cody Rhodes Rousay.

A memorial service will be held at at Howe United Methodist Church at 252 S Summit St. Crescent City Florida on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 3:00 pm. The Reverend Donna Cooney will be officiating.

Mary B. Bowman, 78 of Satsuma, Florida passed away at her home surrounded by her husband and children on Thursday, November 6, 2014.  Mrs. Bowman was born in Corry, Pa., to the late Frank and Helen Burdick on December 15, 1935.  She was an avid bingo player and she loved to watch old westerns, game shows and old movies.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by  her sister, Francis Smith, brothers, Elton Burdick, and Lloyd Burdick.  Mary is survived by her husband of 55 years, Carl R. Bowman Sr., of Satsuma, Fl.; sons, Ricky Bowman and wife, Johna of Chillicothe, OH., Carl Bowman Jr., and wife, Missy of Satsuma, Fl., Max Bowman of Satsuma, Fl,; daughters, Mary McNaughton of Erie, Pa., Beverly Ann Poropat and husband, Don of  Mentor, Oh., Evelyn Jean Restaino and husband, John of Tampa, Fl., Carla Sue Edwards of Satsuma, Fl.; brother, Walt Burdick and wife, Ginny of Elkins, W.Va.; sisters, Dorothy Scott and husband, Ernest of Girard, Pa., Isabelle Swart and husband, Kenneth of Corry, Pa.; plentiful grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was loved by many.  Watts Funeral Home and Cremation Center is entrusted to the arrangements.  Memories and condolences may be shared  with her family on line at

Ida Mae Rogers, 77 of Crescent City, Florida entered the sunset of her life on Thursday, October 23, 2014 following an extended illness.
Ida was born on May 21, 1937 to the late Arthur Baber and her mother, Georgia Bell Baber. While still a baby, Ida's family moved to Crescent City.  She was educated in the Volusia County School District and attended the Victory Worship Center in Crescent City, Fl.
Besides her father, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Adale Oxendine, Irene Williams and Rosa Lee Jenkins; her daughters, Patricia Gallmore and Linda Warren; and her brother, Arthur Baber.  To cherish her memories she leaves  behind her devoted husband, Oscar L. Marshall A. Carroll

Marshall Alexander Carroll, 81 of East Palatka, Florida went home to be with his Lord on Monday, November 10, 2014 in St. Augustine.  He was born on February 26, 1933 in Baltimore, Md., to the late, Thornton C. and Grace (Marshall) Carroll. Besides his parents he is preceded in  death by his sisters, Juanita Russell and Cornelia McNeil; son, Reginal Carroll;  and first wife, Elizabeth Carroll.  Marshall worked and retired from the Maryland State Police.  He also worked and retired from the Florida Department of Labor as an compliance officer. Marshall proudly served his country after joining the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Dyses DDR 880 from June of 1952 to June of 1956.  His years in the Navy were his most proud years.  He was able to attend several ship reunions in various states.


His life lives on in the hearts of his devoted and loving wife of 35 years, Dorothy M. Carroll of East Palatka, Fl.; son, Marshall Carroll Jr., and Bruce Carroll; daughter Darlene Tuck all of Maryland; brother, Thornton (Joann) Carroll of Wilmington, DE; sister, Grace Ridgeley of Md; step children, Catherine L. McBride of Bowie, Md., Joyce Ann Lawson of Bowie, Md., Randolf (Bernadette) Regan of Baltimore, Md., Kim Karen James of East Palatka, Fl., and  Kindel James of Deland, Fl.; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.  Marshall's life will be celebrated on Saturday, November 15, 2014, 11 AM at St Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church, 303 Palm Coast Pkwy., Palm Coast, Fl. 32137 with Pastor Bob Wolff officiating followed with military honors bestowed by the U.S. Navy.  Visitation will be Friday, November 14, 2014 from 6-8 PM at Watts Funeral Home, San Mateo, Fl.

Doctor Robert Dwight Peterson 82, of Bostwick Fl. Passed away at his home on November 20, 2014. Hew was born on October 25, 1932 in Grantville, Ga. He was a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine for the US Department of Agriculture. He was a 1956 graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his Doctorate Degree. He was also a member of OMEGA Tau Sigma Veterinary Fraternity and the Phi Eta Sigma Scholastic Fraternity. He is proceeded in death by his parents David and Julia Peterson his brother David Peterson and his loving wife of 28 years Lois Jordon Peterson. He leaves to carry on his memory his brother-in-law Rufus Jordan and wife Cecila of Melrose, Fl. Numerous nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be Monday 2:00 PM at Watts Funeral Home and Cremation Center in San Mateo, Fl  with Chaplain Jakie Carmicle presiding burial will follow at Melrose Cemetery in Melrose Florida. Donald E. Kirk, 78 of Satsuma, Florida passed on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 in Palatka.  Donald was born on May 8, 1936 to the late Rueben and Ellen Kirk in Owego, NY.  To many he was known as,
"Pops."  Pops was an active member of the VFW in Danby, NY where he served as Past Commander.
He drove stock cars and loved to fish.  He was a carpenter and retired as a truck driver.  He served his country at the end of the Korean War while in the U.S. Army.  Besides his parents he is preceded in death
by daughter, Penny Garner, sister, Diane Pringle, brothers, John and Bob Kirk, and sister, Evelyn Cornwell.
Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Mary E. Kirk of Satsuma, Fl.; son, Donald (Bubba) Kirk of Satsuma, Fl.;
daughter, Kathy Kirk of Satsuma, Fl.; brothers, Ruben Kirk of San Mateo, Fl., Bill and Jim Kirk of New York ; sister, Marge McDonald of NY; six grandchildren ;five great grandchildren and son in law, Dale Garner of Satsuma, Fl. Tiger, 61 of Palatka, Florida passed Wednesday, November 26, 2014.  Nanci was born in Providence, Rhode Island on January 6, 1953 to the late Richard G. and Frances Atkinson.  She enjoyed keeping up with family and friends and felt most at home at the beach.  Nanci loved her family and made them a priority in her life.  Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her granddaughter, Dayle Marie Gillean.  Nanci is survived by her daughters, Heather F.Gillean and husband, Clay of Jacksonville, Fl., Leah K. Ca., to the late John R. and Thelma H. Myers.  He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family and people.  He never met a stranger. Mike was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, Post #45 of Palatka.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjean L. Myers of Palatka, Fl.;daughter, Linda L. Hash and husband, Craig E. Hash of Port Charlotte, Fl.;
