Michael (Mike) S. Schultz

Michael (Mike) S. Schultz, 63, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2016, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Fort Sill Oklahoma, on May 11, 1953, the oldest of four boys, to George and Mary Schultz.

Mike married his high school sweetheart, Kathy, in 1975, and began their married life in Wyoming, where they had two sons.

Mike “Dagwood” as he was known to his friends and family, served as a professional pilot for 24 years with the United States Custom Service before retiring in 2010 in Montana as the Director of Operations of the Montana Air Branch.

In 2010, they relocated to their retirement home located in Sunlight Basin, Cody, Wyoming where he embraced his passion of the outdoors. Here he enjoyed his lifelong loves of fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, and cooking. During his retirement years his” bucket list” was fulfilled through their travels throughout the United States.

He sustained many friendships, where even in his last months, he shared his stories of adventures, reminisced about fond memories, and enjoyed hours of family fun.    

Mike’s legacy is a devoted family who will miss him deeply. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; his two sons, Jeff and Jason and their wives, Taryn and Macey; his six grandchildren Madison, Triston, Ayden, Piper, Landon, Christian; his father George; his stepmother Joan; his three brothers Marc, Matt, and Jon; and his many nieces and nephews.

A  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, located at 2725 S. Hwy. 17,  Crescent City, Florida on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a  Celebration of Life at the Schultz family home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to be sent to Cancer Research – Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, in memory of Michael S. Schultz.

David (Sonny) Magruder

David (Sonny) Magruder, 69, died of a massive stroke on May 18, 2016, with his family by his side at Shands of Gainesvillle, FL. Born on September 1, 1946, in Moultrie, Ga to Archie and Mable Magruder, his family moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he attended Forrest High School. 

He grew up helping in the family stores, Archie’s Markets, in Jacksonville. In his early days, he was a Merchant Marine, of the Seafarers International Union out of Jacksonville, working victory ships hauling ammunition in Vietnam. Later, he moved his family to Orlando, Fl, where he worked for Gator Outdoor Advertising. 

His favorite pastime was fishing. If he could have lived in a fishing boat he would have. He was a jack-of- all-trades, and a self made man. Sonny never met a stranger, and made friends everywhere he went. He was a natural born storyteller and jokester who enjoyed telling the tales of his many adventures though life to anyone who would listen. 

Sonny is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra Streby Magruder; brother, Michael Magruder; 2 sisters, Judy Welles and Sharon Magruder; his son, David Scott Magruder; his daughter, Angel Boyd; and 3 grandchildren, Jordan Poor, Malakai & Kyra Sue Magruder.

He had an unforgettable presence and was deeply loved by so very many. He will be greatly missed.

Vivian Elaine Dreessen

Vivian Elaine Dreessen passed away at Palatka Healthcare on Monday evening, May 23. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her brother, Wilfred (Bud) Johnson of Clinton, Iowa and her parents William and Martha Johnson.

She is survived by a brother, Wes Johnson, of South Dakota, her children, David Hink of Cumming, GA, Steve Hink of Welaka, Florida, Susan Hink, Hemenway, of Kenosha Wisconsin, Rob Hink of Weston, Florida, Stepson, Jack Dreessen of Crescent City, Florida, and Stepdaughter, Lynn Nissen of Maquoketa, Iowa. She had 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren

Vivian loved her husband Jack, her children, and The Republican Party, of which she held active offices before her death. She was a member of the Welaka Town Council. She was a faithful member of Victory Christian Fellowship Church, and Welaka Baptist Church. 

She and her husband were avid fishermen after they retired to Welaka, Florida over 45 years ago. On one of those fishing days, they caught 10 large mouthed bass, totaling in weight of a little over 100 pounds, within the time span of one hour. The local and regional newspapers all carried their story of the amazing catch.

Visitation will be Friday, May 27, 2016, 10:00 AM at Watts Funeral Home in San Mateo followed with a Celebration of her life at 11:00 AM. with Pastor Ben Tippett officiating

A reception is planned after the service at 206 South Hayes Avenue in Fruitland, Florida.

Gloria D. Bussen, 64 of Fruitland, Florida went home to be with her Lord on Friday, June 3, 2016.  Gloria was born in Jacksonville, Fl., on June 30, 1951. She loved to crochet,  work word puzzles, and cross stitch. She and her late husband, Ray Bussen had one daughter, Lucinda Chandler . She has a granddaughter, Zena who  loved to stay with her as much as possible and play with her beloved dog, Duke. Gloria was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Fruitland, Fl. She is survived by her parents, James and Joyce Brooker of Fruitland, Fl.; brothers, James Brooker Jr., and his wife, Diane of Tavares, Fl., Mitchell (Berry) Hoover of Fruitland, Fl.; five sisters, Barbara Smith of Jacksonville, Fl., Connie Orr and husband, Rusty of Webster, Fl., Shirley Menascopile and husband Mike of Suffolk, Va., Alva Yusem of Palatka, Fl., Leann McKinley of Fruitland, Fl.; numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria loved her church and her church family, but most of all she loved her heavenly Father. Dana Lee Shannon of Pomona Park Fla. passed away on Sat. June 11, 2016. Following a brave battle with cancer, Dana passed away at her home with her family at her side.

Dana was born on January 1, 1958 in Richmond Va. and grew up in Sanford Fla.  She was preceded in death by her father Roy L Ripley. Dana is survived by her mother Dorothy M. Ripley of Sanford Fla., her daughter Ami R. Tyson of Ocala Fla., her grandson Hunter S. Ripley of Pomona Park Fla. and by her husband of 20 years James R. Singleton of Pomona Park Fla.

A celebration of life gathering will be held to honor Dana and the life she lived on Sat. June 25, 2016 at 11:00 am. The event will be held at the River's Edge Campground in Georgetown Fla.  All those who knew Dana and her family are welcomed to attend.

Benny Barnett. 71 of Georgetown, Florida passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016. He was born in Middlesborough, Ky., to the late Ben and Geneva (Evans) Barnett on September 6, 1944.  Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his youngest brother, Phil Barnett and his sister Norma Barnett. He was retired truck driver. He loved motorcycles. Benny enjoyed his wife taking him out for scenic drives, sightseeing and just spending time together outdoors. He lives on in the heart of his wife, Yvette Barnett of thirty four years of Georgetown, Fl.; one son, Anthony Toney of Dayton, Oh.; three brothers, Eddie Barnett and his wife, Judy; Ron Barnett and his wife, Roseanne, Danny Barnett and wife, Linda all of Dayton, Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews all of Daytona, Ohio.  A Graveside Service is planned for Friday, July 1st, 2016, 10 AM at Saunders Cemetery in Fruitland, Fl. There is no visitation planned. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to his wife. Vincent Michael Karalunas, 74, of Georgetown, Florida passed on Saturday, July 2, 2016.   Vincent was born in Kingston, Pa., on October 15, 1941 to the late Vincent F. and Helen M. Karalunas. He enjoyed boating, fishing, and he loved the St. Johns River. He was Veteran of the United States Marine Corp and served as a medic for the United States Army.  His military service spanned over 20  plus years which included Bay of Pigs, Desert Storm and Afghanistan.  We also went to Honduras. He attended Welaka United Methodist Church. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Ranbone. Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Arlene Karalunas of Georgetown, Fl.; son, Vincent Karalunas and wife, Dawn of Palm Coast, Fl.; daughters, Venise Roder of Georgetown, Fl., Deborah Ann Thomas of Pringle, Pa.; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren, and great great grandson. A Service is not planned at this time. Evelyn P Visser, 84 of Georgetown, Florida passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at her home. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 5, 1932 to the late Barney and Jessie (Ruis) Padgett.  She loved spending time with her family and traveling. She loved to knit. Evelyn was a member of New Life Church of God in Crescent City, Fl.  Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Huibert Visser, daughter, Donna Wilcock, brother, Joseph Padgett and sister, Beadia. Survivors are her sons, Wayne T. Potter of Georgetown, Fl., Richard G. Potter and wife, Bunlee of Coos Bay, OR; daughter, Cheryle Matheson of Moses Lake, WA.; stepchildren, Gary, Johnny; Leah,  brothers, Russell Padgett of Georgetown, Fl., Norman Padgett and wife, Phyllis of Steinhatchee, Fl.; sisters, Doris Bank of Crescent City, Fl., Marge Lucas of Ct.; four grandchildren.
